My crazy cats cord fetish…

We’ve all seen pictures of dogs chewing shoes, or sofas or in my case a hole in a hotel room wall. (Yes, Scrambler as a puppy had huge abandonment issues, and separation anxiety…)
But I have rarely seen a cat chew like crazy especially after they get over their teething phase. Sure they can be destructive monsters in their own right.
Knocking plants over, glasses of water off the tables, getting stuck in the mini blinds. But never in my life have I have ever met a cat with such a strong cord fetish.
I have five cats, (four inside, one permanently outside) and each comes with their own personality and idiosyncrasies.
But Frodo, our beautiful longer haired black beauty, with his wildly fluffy tail and penetrating goldenrod eyes, he’s a beast like no other. His fetish is electrical cords, preferably Apple products, the more expensive to replace is a bonus.
Frodo is now a year and a half, and yet in his short life span he’s managed to destroy hundreds of dollars in wires and such.

Items Destroyed that had to be Replaced

1 Acer 27 inch Monitor $168
1 Thunderbolt Monitor Cord $30
2 Old iPod Charging Cords $30 each
3 Macbook Pro Power Cords $85 each
4 iPhone Charging Cords $30 each
6 Corded Earphones $10-$25 each
1 Mac Docking Station Power Cord – Returned entire product for a new brand

Items that were salvaged and fixed

1 Cat Box / Space Ship Power Cord
1 FM Antenna Cord
1  Toshiba Power Cord
2 Lamp Cords

I believe honestly that the monitor was knocked off the desk by accident while Frodo was trying to unplug the power cord from the back, because I watched him attempt it later with the replacement monitor.
I’ve coated the cords with foul smelling no chew spray only to read the fine print later that it’s designed for dogs not cats. I’ve now wrapped the cords in electrical tape and then slipped them into cord protector sleeves to try to deter more chewing.

This is why I laugh at friends and family who go out and spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on top of the line, pure bred, papered pets.
All of our pets have been adoptions or rescues, never from breeders, never with papers and yet between the various vet bills, and the miscellaneous destruction we have probably come very close to spending the same amount of money if not more. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Even when I’m contemplating skinning them and turning them into stew. Our animals have filled our home with love and laughter and I’m grateful for them every day that they share our lives.

Bad kitty! My cat Abby (who I thought was retarded) went outside and caught a bird and killed it then she decided that the bird did not need it’s feathers. My porch was one big mass of feathers! Little brat!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
