Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to each and every one. I hope this one day a year those in your life spoil you and remind you how much they appreciate all you do for them. I sent the mom’s each flowers, I hope you received some as well. The flowers came with a test of sorts. I’ll know if the moms have read books two or three because they will totally get the sentiment behind this year’s gift.

This month the hubs and I will be celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary. In a blink of an eye, we went from friends in high school, to married and settled for almost two decades. It’s a bit surreal, to be honest. We usually go to one of our favorite restaurants and sit in their enclosed outdoor patio, with the fire dancing in the fireplace and the water cascading out of their lions-head water features along the back wall. This year, it’s going to have to be take out. But we will still open up a nice bottle of wine, maybe we’ll track down another bottle of Silver Oak again.

All Things Writing:

As I continue with my new year and new me. I’m still bringing you more books and authors to love with another author swap newsletter mentions and to bring a new author to our loyal followers. As part of my new year, new me plans, I want to continue this. I think it’s great to be able to bring as many new authors and books to our readers as we can. And Sharing is Caring… So I’ve reached out to some of my author friends and hope to continue bringing you great authors each month.

Sandra Sookoo: Contemporary Romance and Romantic Suspense Extraordinaire

In Sandra’s own words:

Hi there! Thanks for having me on this blog. For those readers who don’t know me, my name is Sandra Sookoo, and I’m the author of ninety-three books! Yup, that’s right, ninety-three. Just released the newest on April 14th. Most of those books are historical romance or historical romantic suspense, but I do have a couple of handfuls of contemporary romcoms as well as a contemporary romantic suspense series out there.

Writing. That’s my life. I can’t remember a time that I haven’t done it. Ever since I was ten and I did a report in the fifth grade on Walt Disney, I’ve wanted to be an author. That goal never wavered, and here I am. Creating books and making new worlds and birthing interesting characters keeps me sane and centered. It also brings me great joy. I love that I give my readers a chance to escape reality, give them hope and a belief in happy endings in a world that sorely needs more of them.

Oh, and fair warning: my heroines aren’t the weak or hang-wringing sort. They know what they want, they don’t accept the status quo, and they go after their chances at changing their fate. Do they let their heroes rescue them? Sometimes, because that’s always swoon-worthy, but they’re also not afraid to rescue their guys when they get into trouble too.

I launched two brand-new series this spring, and I can’t be more excited about them. The first one, Colors in Scandal, is a Regency-era series that centers around scandal of some sort. Three more books in this series will release in 2020, with another four planned for 2021. Dressed in White is the first book of that series, and it’s out now.

Author Bio:

Sandra Sookoo is a USA Today bestselling author who firmly believes every person deserves acceptance and a happy ending. Most days you can find her creating scandal and mischief in the Regency-era, serendipity and happenstance in Victorian America or snarky, sweet humor in the contemporary world. Most recently she’s moved into infusing her books with mystery and intrigue. Reading is a lot like eating fine chocolates—you can’t just have one. Good thing books don’t have calories!

When she’s not wearing out computer keyboards, Sandra spends time with her real-life Prince Charming in central Indiana where she’s been known to goof off and make moments count because the key to life is laughter. A Disney fan since the age of ten, when her soul gets bogged down and her imagination flags, a trip to Walt Disney World is in order. Nothing fuels her dreams more than the land of eternal happy endings, hope and love stories.

And the other series is Fortune and Glory. Yes, that’s a nod to Indiana Jones! This series is a Victorian adventure romance, and the first book, Ladies Prefer Adventure, just came out. Two more books in this series will release in 2020.

LADIES PREFER ADVENTURE

When the Honorable Charlotte Blakely finds herself courted by Mr. Everett Desmond, the English ambassador to Rome, she wonders how that will affect her hunt for the Veil of Veronica. He’s bored with his position of entertaining and diplomacy, and he hopes to liven up his life by treasure hunting as well as winning Charlotte’s hand. But archaeology and romance often come with peril, and their quest is no different. Can they have everything, or will they die fighting for their hearts’ desires?

Blurb:

A determined woman’s dream…
For Sophie Compte, everything she’s ever wanted is in the palm of her hands. Her long-time beau has proposed. The wedding of the century is coming together nicely. Her father is handing over the daily operations of their horse breeding farm to her and her fiancé.

A stubborn man’s plan…
Claude Durand finally found the courage to slip the ring on his childhood sweetheart’s finger. It’s not that he had ever doubted he would. He just needed time to make something of himself that was independent of his life on the Compte family horse farm.

A world turned upside down…
For Sophie and Claude, their relationship has been a roller coaster of drama and hardships. Now though their time has come. Everything is as it should be. In an instant, everything crashes leaving a pile of rubble in the place of their hopes and dreams, and they are left to question if life will ever be the same. Faced with battered dreams, and forgotten love, they must decide if they can let go of what once was, and push towards a future neither had ever expected.

Travels and Adventures:

May has pretty much been the same as April. That is to say, unexciting, and unremarkable in every way possible.

Animal Antics:

I believe I mentioned before that pugs are notoriously stubborn animals. Smart as a whip, but stubborn as hell.

For a slice of tangerine, however, Rubi’s pretty malleable. I have her now dancing, yes dancing. She stands on her hind legs front legs up in the air, and spins in two circles. It really is the cutest thing to watch.

I can’t get her to roll over on command, she’s not willing to lay flat on her back most of the time either. So I figured we’d try baby steps. I’m working on getting her to just lie on her side and let me rub her belly. Unfortunately when I say baby steps I mean seriously, ridiculously small steps. First sit, then lay down, then belly… It’s incredibly slow, and sometimes she just lays there like a brick even when you try to roll her to her side.

I’m also working on trying to teach her to bring me her toys if I can manage that I can teach her to put them back in her toy box instead of leaving them everywhere. And unlike two-legged children, she won’t grumble that it’s not fair that her sisters and brothers don’t have to do it!

A 2020 Update: HomeoAnimal reached out to me and asked if I would be willing to share a new article about animals during the COVID 19 pandemic to help educate more pet parents on the best way to care for their furry friends. Since this is an entirely unknown situation, it is important that we support each other and share as much knowledge as we can.

Here is a link to HomeoAnimal’s new article: Coronavirus: Should We Be Worried About Our Dogs And Cats?

The overall purpose of this article is to help pet parents learn more about coronavirus in pets. This comprehensive article will help readers by teaching them some fundamentals about coronavirus in pets like: can it spread from humans to cats and dogs and vice versa, and what are the symptoms of feline and canine coronavirus.

A New Creative Space:

I have taken a break looking for colors, other than pointing to the occasional image or scene on TV and saying, I like that color, maybe if it was a little lighter, not so bold… At this rate, it may end up being Barney purple again… Yes, we tried that once about a dozen years ago… Don’t ask, it didn’t end well.

What I’d really like is to mix a bunch of colors together to create my own. Maybe start with a gray base, a dash of slate blue, a dash of seafoam green. And then play with it until it screams, I’m the one! Yes, I’m very well aware I’m out of my mind, my husband reminds me often.

We turned my desk around, instead of facing the bedroom door, it faces the window, which will eventually become a door. Ideally, it will look something like this.

Tell me what you think. Patio Door with Sidelite

Facing the outside will let it a lot more light, and eventually will allow me to see the hummingbirds and dragonflies that used to frequently visit us. That’s my goal anyway.

I figured I should give this direction a try before we tear the room apart and move everything around, like the TV on the wall, etc. Speaking of which, the TV in my office (which was originally the spare room) was only a 30 inch. We’d gotten it as part of the package when we bought our Samsung Curved a few years ago. My husband, with only minimal grumbling, went ahead and swapped out the TV with the four-year-old 40 inch, to see what we thought of that size in here. I know now without a doubt I don’t need anything bigger than this. So hubs is off the hook from buying another TV for now! Might as well take advantage of all the free changes before we start throwing money at the room.

To keep up with all of the changes, and make suggestions, tell me what you like or don’t like, all suggestions are welcome,  follow my board on Pinterest here: New Home Office
